Happy Birthday Scarlette

Another celebration for us in July is that of our dear Granddaughter's
birthday. This year was her 8th, and like most little girls of that age
she LOVES unicorns, castles, fairies, and all things 'girly'.

I have never made a box card before (and probably never will again!).
Perhaps I found it so difficult because I had to create my own large
template so as to accommodate the large castle die-cut (on the back
panel), and the horse and carriage stamp, which I bought last
month for the specific purposes of using on Scarlette's card.

When Scarlette was tiny, I bought several different sheets of DSP from
a collection. It is so pretty, and I knew it would not be available when
she was old enough to be 'into' 'girly fantasy'. This panel is from
one of the sheets.

The unicorn die was bought at the same time as the castle die,
and the horse and carriage stamp.

The front 'drop-down' panel.

View from the top, showing the 4 'bridges', and the various die-cuts
adhered to strips of acetate (cut from a cake box).

The card folded flat, as it appeared when Scarlette took it out of the
envelope. Our son waited to give the card to her, until we could
see her open it on Skype. It was so funny...the panels were all
'flopping', as she tried to treat it like an ordinary card. When
I told her to squeeze the 2 sides, the box shape 'magically'
appeared. Scarlette literally gasped with surprise
and wonder...she loved it!

The back panel with the fabulous castle die-cut, and our
personal birthday message.

Hello Handsome

Another annual July event is our wedding anniversary.
This year John and I celebrated our 46th year of wedded bliss.
Normally we like to try different restaurants for special occasions,
but this year we went to the same one as last year, as we enjoyed our
meal so much. We were not disappointed...delicious!!!

This is the card I made for John. The 'Hello Handsome' stamp
was part of a set that was free in a magazine. It is so appropriate
as I will never forgot how I felt when I entered the church on our
wedding day. I thought John looked so handsome (and still do!).

A closer look at the little Penny Black cutie.

Black Cats

July and Christmas are my two busiest periods of the year, and this July
seems to be busier than ever. Added to the usual frenzy has been a week
away to travel to Lismore for a nurses' reunion and a visit to my dear
friend in Tenterfield. We have been friends for an amazing 54.5
years! I had a wonderful time, reliving old memories,
while laughing and eating way too much.

One annual July event is my dear John's birthday, so this is the card I made for him.
We both love cats, and of course music, so I incorporated both into the card. I think
this little kitty is singing 'Happy Birthday' to John. For the background, I sponged
a stencil with Distress Ink.

Such a happy little kitty! In retrospect, I think I should have added
some pink cardstock behind his ears?

Challenges I would like to enter:-
Crafty Catz #426 - 'Anything Goes, with option of using dies/punches'
Fussy and Fancy #216 - 'Pink and Green' (I hope turquoise/teal qualifies as 'green')

Products used
Dies - Frantic Stamper Inc: Cute Kitten; Simply Dies Music Wave; Creative Expressions Isobel
Stencil - Ranger Dylusions It's RainingCats
Ink - Tim Holtz Distress Ink Peacock Feathers

Hopefully I will be back soon with more cards, as I have been very busy with all the special occasions, plus lots of design team commissions. In the meantime, thank you for visiting my blog.

Hugs,
Jennifer.   x

One Cool Cat

I am such a bad blogger these days. It is already a month since I last added
anything to my blog, but this retirement business is crazy. I can't remember
being this busy when I was working full time, and raising our son.

Enough of my excuses...it is the second Wednesday in the month, and that
means it is time for another challenge at Words 2 Craft By.
Our quote this month is such a fun one -
"Life Is Better In Flip Flops"

While we here in Australia are experiencing freezing temperatures at the moment,
much of the Northern hemisphere is sweltering. This cool cat has the right idea about
beating the heat. The fabulous paper is from a precious sheet I bought several years
ago. Unfortunately it is no longer available.

Inside the card co-ordinates with the front.

A close up of the cool little dude. He is a digi stamp I bought many
years ago, and have never used (my bad!!). I put Glossy Accents
on the lens of his sunglasses and the ice cubes, but it does not
show in the photo.
